Visit the Gravette Community Building! HOME About Departments Events Doing Business News & Announcements Meeting Calendar Report a Concern Contact Us More... Gravette Community Building 502 Charlotte St. SE Gravette, AR 72736 The Gravette Community Building, located at 502 Charlotte St. SE in Gravette, was recently remodeled in 2019. This building was formerly used as a Gravette School District Home Economics building several decades ago. The remodeled building was designed for use as a community room where class reunions, family reunions, meetings, and other gatherings can be held. This building received a complete makeover while maintaining much of its original history and character. The original siding, wood floors, fireplace, and one of the demonstration kitchens were kept to preserve the history of the building. The building was originally a mess hall at Camp Crowder, located near Neosho, Missouri. Post War, it and one other building were purchased in August of 1947 thanks to the Smith-Hughes Act which authorized the use of federal funds for vocational education in public schools. The buildings were moved to Gravette where they were reconstructed and began their life as school buildings. The original home economics teaching kitchen was saved as a crucial part of the design and now features an exhibit about what a Home-Ec class would have been like during the 1950’s. Other exhibits in the building will reflect the history of the City of Gravette and the surrounding area. The Museum will maintain these exhibits as part of its community outreach program. This building was purchased from the Gravette School District in 2017 by the City of Gravette. Through a grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and several private donations, the City of Gravette and the Gravette Historical Museum partnered to undertake the renovation of the building thus saving this important piece of Gravette history. CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS Every holiday season for the last several years, the Gravette Fire Department has collected toys and clothing to distribute at Christmas time to local families who need extra support during the holidays. After seeing a need in the community, Chief David Orr and Captain Jared Weston are expanding the Christmas for Kids program in order to serve more families in the Gravette fire district. Through the holiday season, the Gravette Fire Department will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and clothing items as part of its Christmas for Kids collection and distribution. There is a collection box at Dollar General in Gravette and items are also being accepted at the Gravette Fire Station and Gravette City Hall. Monetary donations are also accepted and appreciated. Captain Weston assisted with the Newton County program for several years before starting Christmas for Kids in Gravette. "One of his greatest wishes was to see no child go without on Christmas and so we hope to expand on his and many others’ hard work and to bring joy to many kids here in Gravette," says Captain Weston. The online application for assistance is available below. Paper applications are available at City Hall and can be returned via email to info@GravetteAR.com , at City Hall, or at the fire station. Applications are due by December 1 and will be evaluated by a review committee and then forwarded to the fire department to compile an assortment of gifts. Selected recipients will receive the gifts prior to Christmas. Chief Orr states, “Our hope is that every kid can have a great Christmas.” The Gravette fire district covers 53 square miles of both city and county response area and is staffed by career and volunteer firefighters.
