Vacant City Clerk/Treasurer Position

Letters of interest are now being accepted to fill the vacant city clerk/treasurer position. Applicants must live in the city limits and must be able to meet the criteria to run for municipal office listed below. Experience related to banking, finance, or accounting is helpful, but not necessary. Meetings typically occur on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. Those interested in filling this position should submit a letter of interest to info@gravettear.com by 4:00 pm on May 9. This information will be presented to the City Council to review at the May 12 meeting and a replacement will be selected at the May 26 meeting. All applicants should plan on attending the May 12 Committee of the Whole meeting to make a brief presentation to the City Council about themselves.


Criteria to run for municipal office:

  • must be a qualified elector

  • must be a U.S. citizen

  • must be an Arkansas resident

  • must live in jurisdiction to be represented at time of filing and throughout term

  • must be lawfully registered to vote

  • must never have been convicted of fraud, embezzlement of public money, bribery, forgery, or other infamous crime.

14-43-506. Duties of city clerk.

(a) The city clerk in cities of the first class shall have the custody of all the laws and

ordinances of the city and shall keep a regular and correct journal of the proceedings of

the city council.

(b)(1)(A) The city clerk, city clerk-treasurer, or city treasurer, as the case may be, shall

submit monthly a full report and a detailed statement of the financial condition of the city.

(B) The report shall show receipts, disbursements, and balance on hand, together with all

liabilities of the city.

(2) The report shall be submitted to the council in open session.


14-43-507. Duties of treasurers.

Treasurers in cities of the first class shall be required to make similar reports as prescribed

in § 14-43-506 and shall perform such other duties as may be required by the ordinances of the

city.
