Purpose

The study evaluates traffic, safety, and future capacity needs along Highways 59 and 72 in western Benton County, focusing on the cities of Siloam Springs, Gentry, Decatur, and Gravette.

It was authorized by Minute Order 2023-040 in response to growing concerns about congestion, truck traffic, and safety.

Planning Context

• Benton County part of one of the fastest-growing U.S. metro areas.

• Four projects already in ARDOT’s 2025-2028 STIP, including:

  • Intersection upgrades at Hwy 59/72 (Gravette)

  • Passing lanes on Hwy 59

  • Intersection upgrades at Hwy 12/59 (Gentry)

• Other ongoing efforts: improvements to Hwy 112 and a proposed western north-south connector
