JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Water Clerk

Department: Water Department

Reports To: Finance Director

Pay Statue: Hourly



SUMMARY

Reviews and posts data from handheld meters, computes charges for utility services, marks special accounts for billing purposes, compiles data, prepares bills and operates billing machines to prepare bills to be sent to customers. Assist in setting up time and dates for Civic center rental and assist the Building Inspector in issuing building permits and other duties may be assigned.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting relationships, work assignments and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance and work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors and co-workers are Essential elements of this position.


A. Posts late and special meter readings.

B. Examines meter reading entries for evidence of irregular conditions, such as defective meters or use of service without contract and prepare work orders for corrective actions by others.

C. Enters customer information into computer and enters work orders into the computer.

D. Receives cash or checks to be posted to customers’ accounts.

E. Receives cash or checks for Fire dues, court payments and other transactions.

F. Endorses checks, lists, totals cash and checks for bank deposit.

G. Researches and processes returned checks.

H. Prepares monthly bills to be mailed to customers.

I. Compares totals on cash register with amount of currency in register to verify balances.

J. Answers Customer Service phone inquiries and follows up.

K. Assists with related special projects as required.

L. Operates office machines such as typewriter, computer terminal, ten key, copier and fax.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

A. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.

B. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

C. Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

D. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

E. Physical communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear (talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing – perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
