Tree Giveaway Planned

The City of Gravette will host a tree giveaway on Saturday, November 2, 2019, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM at Old Town Park in Gravette. This tree giveaway is made possible thanks to a grant from the Walton Family Foundation. Trees will be limited to two per household and residents are asked to bring proof of residency. Trees will be give out on a first come, first served basis. Tree species available include Natchez Crapemyrtle, Sawtooth Oak, Ranger Peach, Tulip Tree, Velvet Pillar Crabapple, Swap White Oak, Kieffer Pear, and Wisconsin Weeping Willow.
According to the University of Arkansas extension office, fall is the ideal time to plant trees because the less demanding weather allows the root system time to grow. The Walton Family Foundation has also awarded the city with a grant for a contractor to plant twenty-five trees at Hiwasse Park and five trees at the top of Old Town. Gravette Mayor Kurt Maddox says, "The trees at Hiwasse Park and Old Town Park are a welcome addition and I look forward to seeing them grow and provide shade to the playground areas."
