Late last week, Mayor Maddox accepted Rob Douthit's resignation from the Gravette Fire Chief position. Mr. Douthit plans to remain with the department and fill an open position as a full time Paramedic. Mayor Maddox wishes to publicly thank him for his service and wishes him all the best. Police Chief Chuck Skaggs will serve as the interim Fire Chief.
The City of Gravette is accepting applications for the positions of full time Fire Chief. The Gravette Fire Chief plans, organizes, directs, and administers all operations of the fire department including fire administration (public relations, management of budget, personnel, supplies, equipment, structures, and compliance/enforcement of regulations, policies and procedures), fire suppression, ambulance response, fire investigations, fire prevention, building inspections, code enforcement, hazardous material response, rescue, and all other life safety/emergency services (excluding law enforcement) provided by the City of Gravette.
Primary obligations:
Directs activities at the scene of emergencies
Remains on-call 24 hours/daily, 365 days/annually, with the exception of scheduled leaves and/or vacations
Directly supervises full-time paramedic/firefighters, several volunteer firefighters, directs ALS ambulance operations, fire suppression activities, fire investigations, building inspections, code enforcement.
Prepares monthly reports for city council
Prepares yearly fire department budget
Attends city, county, state as well as other meetings to represent Gravette Fire Department
Conducts departmental meetings and training sessions
Qualifications and Requirements:
Associates degree or higher in Fire Science/Administration
Current Firefighter I and Firefighter II Certification
Current Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic (Preferred)
Certified Instructor I or higher (Preferred)
Certified Fire Officer I or higher (Preferred)
Certified Fire Inspector I or higher (Preferred)
Certified Arson Investigator (Preferred)
Haz-Mat Training
Arkansas Forestry Wildland Training
ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, 300, 400
Minimum of 5 years in the fire service with a full-time department
3 years within the command structure – currently at the rank of Captain or higher
Experience as a member of a volunteer fire department organization
Must reside within the Gravette Fire District, or be willing to move.
Proficient in Firehouse (or similar), Microsoft Office, Excel, and other reporting systems
Possesses or must obtain an Arkansas Driver’s License without record of suspension or revocation in any state
Pass a drug screening and physical
Benefits:The position will receive holiday pay, vacation and sick time, LOPFI retirement and Municipal Health insurance.
Salary: $45,900 to $62,100 depending on qualifications and experience
