Library Supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities
Administration/Management
Acts as resource person for daily operations.
Assists in personnel, budget, building, and administrative matters.
Recommends technology-related and patron-related policies and procedures to Mayor and advises on long-term needs in relation to these areas.
Provides reference and readers/audiovisual/technology advisory service to the public.
Gathers statistics for the State Annual Report, Monthly Library reports for Council, and other reports as needed.
Attends monthly meetings of the library’s Commission Board and prepares narrative reports as required.
Participates in long-range planning process for the library, including recommending changes or improvements and developing new types of services and operations.
Develops grants for library programs and services as appropriate and available.
Stays up-to-date on professional developments through participation in professional organizations, system meetings, workshops, and continuing education opportunities.
Personnel
Interviews, selects, trains, supervises, and schedules staff.
Maintains payroll and attendance records for staff.
Conducts Library staff meetings.
Supervises staff training of online catalog, databases, online reference service, and web page.
Holds performance reviews for services staff as well as participates in reviews for other staff as determined by the Mayor.
Collection Development and Training
Selects and maintains audiovisual collections including videos, DVDs, audiobooks, circulating software and hardware, and other technologies as relevant.
Serves as Training Coordinator for public computer classes.
Develops technology competencies for staff, creates staff training and troubleshooting manuals, and holds staff training sessions as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
A strong background in computers/technology and non-print materials formats.
Patience, tact, and excellent communication skills.
Enjoys learning as well as teaching.
Ability to train and supervise library staff.
Strong organizational talents.
Demonstrates creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
Poise in a busy setting serving patrons and staff with high expectations.
Excellent reference skills and ability to relate to patrons of all ages.
